Announcement: Winter Storm – Preparing for it

**PREPARING FOR WINTERSTORM**

– SHARING THE INFO FROM STATE OF CALIFORNIA –

(COURTESY OF STATE OF CALIFORNIA, CALIFORNIA DEPT OF REHABILITATION, & COUNTY OF MONTEREY)

A winter storm is happening in most of the state of California through this Friday. Read the message below.

Hello Community Partners and Stakeholders (Public included),

The State of California is closely monitoring a series of storms that will bring widespread rain, mountain snow, and strong winds to most of the state through Friday.

As we prepare for winter storms, it is important for people with disabilities, older adults, family members, and caregivers, to prepare for the potential for power outages, flooding, and other impacts due to wind, rain, and snow.

Make sure to sign up for local emergency alerts, make an emergency plan, and be prepared to check in with family, friends, and neighbors who might be impacted by the storms.

The California Health & Human Services (CalHHS) Emergency Resource Guide is available to help you and your community prepare. The California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) and Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) has an Emergency Preparedness Guide/Toolkit for Individuals with Disabilities that is available in multiple languages and includes information and emergency preparedness tips for individuals with specific types of disabilities.

Getting up-to-date information and alerts and having a plan is important, especially for individuals who may need extra time to respond to a disaster. We encourage you to support community members to sign up to receive local emergency alerts and to make a family emergency plan.

We encourage you and your community members to utilize these resources to help you stay safe and well during the winter storm.

Click on these links above to gather resources from the State of California, plus from County of Monterey (those who are in the area), OR check your area for resources, etc. Also, keep track of the National Weather Service (link or QR code) in your area for future weather predictions. Be prepared!

For our D/HH Community who need clarification, etc., contact any of our four DHHSC offices of Central California or to your nearest agency/organization.

Stay safe everyone!
